What to Ask a Lead Vendor Before You Buy
Most disputes with lead vendors come from things that were never put in writing. Ask these before you buy.
What is the buffer, in seconds?
Ask for the exact buffer in writing — it's the single number that sets your real cost per conversation. A vendor who won't state it is telling you something.
Then compute price divided by the share of billed calls worth having, and compare that number across vendors.
What counts as a billable call, and what's the return policy?
Ask exactly which calls bill and how disputes and returns work. Get the wrong-number, wrong-state, and hang-up rules in writing.
A clear return window on genuinely junk calls is worth more than a low sticker price.
How is the caller qualified before I get them?
Ask what qualification happens before the transfer, and whether the bar is written down. 'They asked for insurance' is not a qualification bar.
A written bar — state, age band, coverage status, intent — is what lets you predict your close rate.
Common questions
What's the single most important question?
The buffer in seconds, in writing. Everything about your real cost per conversation flows from it.
Should I get any of this in a contract?
Yes. Buffer, billable-call definition, and return policy should be in writing before you buy.
TransferDesk publishes the qualification bar in writing and hands qualified callers to a licensed agent — it never sells, quotes, or closes. Founding agents are signing up now.
